FIND THE SPACE FOR WHAT YOU NEED
Our mission is to provide systems of movement that will strengthen the body and promote clarity of mind. Ultimately, we hope that through this strength and clarity, our community is able to find Space in their lives for what they need.
Kasey Buchtien, Owner
Growing up in Bellville, Texas, Kasey participated in several sports throughout her childhood before playing collegiate volleyball at Samford University. Movement and exercise always played a big role for Kasey, and in 2011, she found her passion in teaching others the gifts of health and wellness as an instructor at DEFINE body & mind in Houston, Texas. Throughout the 5 years with DEFINE Kasey became a Senior level instructor and taught over 2000 Barre, Vinyasa Flow and Spin Classes. Kasey then spent over 2 years as a Barre, Spin and Yoga instructor on Maui, Hawaii, where she continued teaching and furthering her education in health and wellness by completing her Certified Personal Trainer Certification through The National Academy of Sports Medicine in January 2018. While she loved the adventure and beauty of the island, her love of family and community brought her back to Texas. The connections Kasey makes with her clients and the ability to witness the physical and mental transformations of those clients is what Kasey enjoys most about teaching. Kasey looks forward to sharing her passion with the community.
Growing up in Orange Grove, Texas sports, exercise, and outdoor activity were the pillars of Anna’s every day life. Despite her athletic background, her experience in the school band is what carried over to her time at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi where she played the oboe in the college symphony. Anna remained passionate about health and wellness and was able to incorporate classes into her degree program ranging from strength and conditioning for women, to yoga, to tennis, to tai chi, to surfing. When she had three children in three years, she used all that knowledge to develop her own workouts in order to maintain her health and wellness at home. When her husband’s job required the family to relocate to the Houston area, the small town charm and sense of community in Bellville made calling it home an easy choice. Anna is excited to be part of The Space community and looks forward to connecting with clients through the power of music and movement.
Maggie moved to Bellville several years ago and has been committed to our community from the get go!!!! She is involved in a number of community outreach organizations and this last year decided to embark on a new challenge- she turned her life long passion of cooking, hospitality, and catering into an entrepreneurial venture. Her company- Bon Vivant Boards specializes in charcuterie, crudités and other elaborate food boards.
Maggie has a degree in communications from Willam Peace University, Raleigh, NC and a law degree from South Texas College of Law, Houston, TX.
A healthy lifestyle is important to Maggie. She is an avid golfer, playing Division II golf in college. Currently, she’s active in two ladies tennis leagues. For years Maggie has been a religious indoor cycler-when The Space Studio added cycle classes, Maggie jumped at the opportunity to expand her passion and train to become a Cycle Instructor. Maggie’s fervor and enthusiasm are infectious- The Space Studio and Bellville communities are lucky to have such a lovely person and committed Instructor!
THE SPACE: BARRE CLASS
A 60-minute full-body mat-based workout appropriate for all fitness levels. The Space: Barre Class targets all major muscle groups. Through systematic and balanced design of choreography, the low-impact and sustainable technique fuses elements of yoga, pilates and ballet to strengthen and elongate the muscles, increase core strength and vitality in the spine and improve overall flexibility. Mats provided, no shoes required, grippy socks if desired.
THE SPACE: BARRE EXPRESS
A 40-minute full-body mat-based workout appropriate for all fitness levels. The Space: Barre Express will target every major muscle group while flowing more quickly through each section of class. Effective and efficient for those on the go!! Mats provided, no shoes required.
THE SPACE: YOGA CLASS
A 75-minute Vinyasa Flow Yoga appropriate for all levels of students. The class focuses on the smooth transition between postures. In Vinyasa Yoga, each movement is synchronized to breath, as you flow from one posture to another the breath acts as an anchor. In Sanskrit, Vinyasa translates as "connection". We can interpret this as a connection between movement and breath or as a connection between postures in a flowing sequence. Please bring your own yoga mat or you can rent a pilates mat for $3. No shoes required.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CLASS?
You should wear pants, leggings or capris that you are comfortable in (no shorts). You will see faster results in your flexibility this way. You will also want to be barefoot, but have the option of wearing grippy socks of your choice. You will want to remove your shoes before you walk through the studio.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
For The Space Studio: Barre Class, we will have all the equipment you’ll need at the studio. For The Space Studio: Yoga Class you will need to bring your own mat. We suggest bringing a bottle of water, possibly a sweat towel, and a positive attitude! We do ask that you not bring your cell phones into class with you, as this can be distracting to the teacher and your fellow members of The Space Studio Community. If you’re expecting an important call, you’re welcome to notify the instructor before class.
WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR CLASS?
If you are visiting The Space Studio for the first time, we recommend that you arrive 10-15 minutes before class begins. Once you fill out a short waiver, the teacher will show you where you can leave your belongings and help you get the equipment you will be using during the day’s class – typically a set of light weights, a ball, and a resistance band. Once you’ve got everything you need, just find a spot on a mat where you feel most comfortable.
